NO GO FOR DODDS
Kilmarnock have called off their bid to sign Billy Dodds - because they can't
afford his wages.
Killie boss Bobby Williamson had hoped to bring the Scottish international to
boost next season's UEFA Cup campaign.
But although Dodds was prepared to take a pay cut on his current Rangers
earnings, his salary is still too high for the Rugby Park club.
Chairman Bill Costley said: "Obviously, we'd love to bring Billy Dodds to
Kilmarnock but I discussed his wages with Bobby (Williamson) and they are
completely out of our league.
"There is no clear indication that Billy can take a further drop in wages to
come here.
"I've spoken to Rangers about the matter and I make no bones that we would love
to have him. But the bottom line is that he is too rich for us. I would have
pushed the boat out for him but not to that extent.
"It's a shame for both parties because he would have been a wonderful signing
for us. He would add experience to the team but it would also have been a great
move for him.
"With the World Cup around the corner, it would offer him the chance of regular
top-team football."
