Rangers midfielder Ronald de Boer has backed his brother Frank to clear his name
over a failed drugs test that could end his career with Barcelona.
De Boer's twin brother Frank and Dutch international team-mate Edgar Davids have
both failed tests which showed higher than permitted levels of nandralone in
their bodies.
UEFA have told them they are facing lengthy bans of up to two years if found
guilty, which would effectively end de Boer's career at the Nou Camp as the
30-year-old is out of contract this summer and would need to be replaced.
But Ronald, who himself moved to Ibrox from Barcelona for £4.5million last
October has backed Frank to win his hearing this week.
Ronald said: "My brother Frank has his drugs hearing on Thursday.
"Of course he is worried but, on the other hand, he is relaxed because he knows
he's not done anything wrong. He may face a long ban and at this moment there's
nothing he can do about it.
"But he will fight to the end to prove his innocence and has the backing of
Barcelona and the Dutch authorities."
Meanwhile, Ronald de Boer believes Chelsea should have followed up their
interest in Rangers team-mate Giovanni van Bronckhorst rather than bid for West
Ham's Frank Lampard.
De Boer said: "In my opinion Gio is a much better player than Lampard and I'm
surprised they did not offer more for Gio."
